Our History
Old South Restaurant has always been more than just a place to eat—it’s a place where history, community, and tradition come together. Originally built in 1947, the restaurant was designed by William E. Stell as a streamlined Art Moderne-style diner along Arkansas Highway 64, once a major travel route connecting Tennessee to Oklahoma.
At a time when the surrounding area was largely undeveloped, Old South quickly became a welcoming stop for travelers and a dependable gathering place for locals. Known for its warm hospitality and quality food, it operated around the clock, creating a legacy of comfort, consistency, and connection that spanned generations.
